WMTA AUDITIONS

Wisconsin Music Teacher Association District Auditions event gives students from grades 1-12 opportunity to prepare works for an adjudicator - usually memorized pieces, although not always - and receive commentary on the performance.  Areas assessed are technique (pedaling, fingering, posture, phrasing), accuracy of notes/rests and articulation, memorization, rhythm including the appropriacy and steadiness of tempo, correct counting, and general musicianship including phrase shaping, dynamics, tone quality and style.

Students also take a separate Musicianship test (theory), appropriate to their level of play.

Points are earned for both performance and theory tests, and accumulate to earn incentive awards for continued musical growth and development.

District auditions are open to all students grades 1-12 studying with a WMTA/MTNA member.  These events are held to support and maintain the highest standards of musicianship and musicality, and grades are reflective of the entirety of the performance, including presentation/stage presence and attire. WMTA District Auditions is a pre-requisite for student involvement in WMTA Badger Competitions, open to students grades 4-12.

The Auditions experience offers both student and teacher a wonderfully encouraging format for growth by supporting the positive work of the student and offering strategies for improvement.  For teachers, commentary and critiques offer opportunity to witness the effectiveness of their teaching and studio techniques and encourages development of a comprehensive music curricula.
